This article focuses on two brothers, Dave and Scott Dambacher. These brothers are challenging the Westboro Baptist Church. The Church is known for "vile hate mongering" and protesting. The brothers want to celebrate diversity by hosting a New Rock Musical in Kansas. This latest project of theirs, "The Freaka in Topeka," is going to be all about tolerance. They believe the theme of the show will make the Church members unhappy and hopefully draw them to the concert.
The show is going to be an open call. The brothers are going to host auditions to fill the spots at the show. They hope a lot of people will come to the show and support their ideas. The show will be a rock 'n' roll piece. The show has the tagline "fight fire with fabulous," which perfectly fits the motive behind the show. They predict the show will cost around $50,000 dollars to produce which the brothers will pay if they can't fund the whole thing.
I think this show is a great idea. I also think it is a great way to raise more awareness for diversity. However, I hate when people give the Westboro Baptist Church attention. It seems at this point that the only thing they are known for is protesting absurd things. Nothing they do deserves anyone's attention. They should really just be ignored. Almost no one besides the members of the church agree with what the church does. Hosting this type of show should hopefully draw them out. I hope the brothers continue to successfully work on spreading the idea of diversity. I just wish they did not have to worry about groups like the Westboro Baptist Church.
